Mettle Psychosurgery Interview

These newcomers to the metal scene have really impressed me, they are very "epicy" with their use of choirs and narrators, but unlike some bands they don't get so wrapped up in being "epicy" that they forget to be heavy. After having the songs bounce around my head for awhile I decided that I had to find out more about the people behind one of my favorite CDs of the year and luckily Henrik the bass player answered my cries for sanity! So lets see how he cures my curiosity! How has the response for "Possession of Power" been? Is it more or less what you and your label was hoping for?
-Yes, it ís been what we were hoping for but the response has been high above our expectations! We have been very gratefully accepted from all over the world and we really didn't think that would happened!

How Much touring have you done for it? Who did you end up touring with? How was it?
-Since the release we have only done one gig so far, it was here in Sweden at "Motala Metal Festival" with Grave Digger and Lefay among others and that gig was very good for us and it went great. In the summer we'll be touring in France with Labÿrinth and Pink Cream 69.

Where appears to be your biggest following?
-That would be France and Spain I think but, every gig is important cause you get more and more attention.

How hard and how expensive was it for you guys to get Narrators and Choirs you used? Did you guys pay for it yourself of did the label cover it?
-We did manage to get everyone almost for free except for the travel costs and one of the narrators is our producer Jan Strandh so it wasn't any problems to get narrators since the other narrator is a friend of his, the choir is from our hometown and this was their first participation on a record so they thought it would be great!

How would you describe Morifade to people who haven't heard of you?
-As a melodic power metal band with a classical and symphonic touch. Quite different from other bands, we try not to sound like any other band. We don't want to be put in one specific metal genre since we have a lot of influences.

Have you guys started working or thinking about another album? If so can you tell me abit about the direction you will go now. How Long are you guys with Loud N Proud?
-Yeah, we have some new material for a forthcoming album and right now we're satisfied with it but who knows how we'll feel about it when it's time for the new CD! Right now we are concentrating at our new mini CD "Cast a Spell" which we will release this summer containing "Cast a Spell" from Possession of Power, a re-recording of "Tomorrow Knows" from Across the Starlit Sky, a cover of Phenomena's "Dance With The Devil" and one new yet untitled song. We'll stay with Loud N' Proud for as long as we feel satisfied with them.

What are some of the goals Morifade has set for themselves in the future?
-To always do our best, not following trends and to be accepted by the world!

What inspired you to write "Ancient Prophecy"?
-My freakiness for Fantasy! What really inspired me to write "Ancient Prophecy" was after reading a book. I have always wanted to write a song with a Fantasy theme! I read a lot Fantasy and I'm very interested in ancient history and the Middle Ages.

What are some of the better bands in your opinion from Sweden? Ever listened to HOLLOW?
-We have really great bands here in Sweden like Nocturnal Rites, Crystal Eyes, Evergrey, Lefay and Tad Morose. Yes I've heard Hollow and I think their good!

Since Steve Harris is one of your major influences, what do you think of Bruce being back in Maiden and what did you think of Blaze and the two CD's that steve wrote without Bruce?
-I think it's great that both Bruce and Adrian is back in Maiden and I hope they Will write as good music as they use to do. I do not like the two latest albums with Maiden and I didn't like Blaze Bailey's Voice.

I'll name some bass players and you tell me what you think of their style and bands! Peavy Wagner and Rage?
-I think Rage is one of the best bands in the world but I can't say very much about Peavy's bass technic, of course he's good but he doesn't play in an extraordinary way at least he doesn't show it with Rage.

Joey Demaio and Manowar?
-Manowar is also one of my favorite bands and Joey is a great bassplayer, he's very fast and has got a very cocky attitude.

Ex-bassist Hansi Kursch and Blind Guardian and Demons & Wizards?
-Blind Guardian is One of my/our inspirations, hmm...What can I say about Hansi Kursch? I've never really paid any great attention to his bass playing but he's one of the best singers on the earth! I haven't heard much of D&W so I can't say anything more than it sounds like you thought it would - A mix between Blind Guardian and Iced Earth, great!

Are there any bassists that you think I should know about? Who?
-Maybe Luis Mariutti from Angra, Thomas Miller from Symphony X and Alessandro Lotta from Rhapsody, are all very good bass players!

Since my page is devoted to metal and using it to help people control or at least understand their emotions, mind telling us what you like to do when your feeling down or pissed off to take you mind off it?
-Well, my advice would be to listen to great music of course! Or compose music, yeah that's great too, when you're pissed off or whatever that's when the inspiration is running through your body!

What is the metal scene like over there? What is some stuff you might find in jukeboxes over there?
-The Swedish metal scene has grown very big the last years and more and more people start listening to metal and that's great but you won't find any metal in the jukeboxes, just shit like Dance and Hip-hop, it should be called "pukeboxes"(note: I laughed my ass off to that one! dr.ManiC) instead! One more thing is that there isn't very many bigger festivals or concerts in Sweden and that ís very bad!

If you could form a "SUPERGROUP" with anyone in the world(or time) who would you pick and why? What would be the aim or message of the band?
-I don't know, it's a hard question, but the message would be to deliver great music!

Any final Comments?
-Well, a big thanx to everyone for believing in Morifade and our music. Hope to see you soon!!! Cheers and bye!!
